Built to Last.
Literally.

BTL Buildings is a licensed North Carolina general contractor building accessory dwelling units, shops, garages, and storage buildings across the Cape Fear region.

Who We Are

A Small Contractor
That Answers the Phone

BTL Buildings was founded in 2023 in southeastern North Carolina. We are a licensed and insured general contractor, and we build a deliberately narrow set of things: accessory dwelling units and guest houses, custom shops, detached garages, and storage buildings.

That focus is a choice. Contractors who will build anything end up learning each project on your dime. We build the same handful of structures over and over across New Hanover, Brunswick, Pender, and Onslow counties, which is why our estimates hold and our schedules mean something.

The name is the standard. Coastal North Carolina is hard on buildings — salt air, humidity, wind, and storms. We build for that on purpose rather than discovering it at inspection.

How We Work

Four Things We Actually Do Differently

📍

Zoning Before Design

Most stalled accessory-structure projects die at zoning, not construction. We check setbacks, lot coverage, impervious surface, height limits, and septic capacity before you pay anyone to draw anything.

📑

Paid Estimates, Real Numbers

$250 for a site visit and a written itemized proposal, credited back at signing. It is why our numbers hold instead of climbing after demolition.

📞

One Point of Contact

The most common complaint about contractors in this market is silence. You get one name and one number, and you will know where your project stands.

🌪

Coastal Engineering as Standard

Wind zone detailing, moisture management, and corrosion-resistant hardware are baseline on every build, not line-item upgrades we hope you decline.

Straight Talk

What We Will Tell You
That Others Might Not

Sometimes the answer is no. Some lots will not support an ADU. Some septic systems cannot take another bedroom. Some budgets do not match the building being described. We would rather tell you that on the first visit than six weeks into a design.

Bigger is usually the right call. Nobody has ever called us to say their shop or garage was too large. If you are on the fence between two sizes, the incremental cost of the larger one is almost always less than what you think, and always less than adding on later.

Decide the expensive-later items before the pour. Plumbing rough-in, electrical capacity, ceiling height, storage-rated trusses, insulation. Cheap now, painful later. Tell us your ten-year plan, not just this year's budget.

Permitting takes longer than you want. Any contractor promising a permitted structure in a few weeks is either not permitting it or not telling you the truth.
